Maximum crop optimization

Michigan Mediums Soils have been scientifically designed to provide the easiest and most cost efficient way to cultivate cannabis. It works equally well in top-watering or bottom watering systems, and for all potted crops; indoor or outdoor.

  • Seeds can germinate well in Michigan Mediums Start Mix, but ensure the soil is moist (not wet). Please note that the Michigan Mediums Start Mix has been developed for high nutrient-demanding crops and therefore clone transplants are preferred.
  • Transplant only healthy (nice green leaves), well-established clones with nice white roots (1/8” to 1/2” of root showing through the root plug).
  • Timely transplanting is essential. If you transplant too early your plant will not have a strong enough root system and leaves will wilt rapidly. If transplanted with roots without an overly extensive root system, a clone could experience some root death causing delays in vegetation.
  • Keep transplants in a slightly humid environment of at least 70% to 80% relative humidity (RH) until they have shown an increase in vegetative material.
  • Ideally, Michigan Mediums Soils should be watered with dechlorinated or reverse osmosis (RO) water. Tap water or rain water should be analyzed to ensure that there are no extremes in pH. If chlorinated water is to be used, it must be allowed to off gas for at least 24 hours.
  • Your desired size of plant will be affected by the size of pot you choose. Michigan Mediums Soils are fully amended but if you choose a pot that is too small, your plant will not have enough nutrients to complete its life cycle. The larger the pot, the larger the supply of amendments available for the plant to feed. A general guide is to have up to 5 gallons of Michigan Mediums Soil per 12″ of height. Plant growth will vary by strain and genetics, but if final (desired) plant size is: 12″ ~ 5 gallon container; 24″ ~ 10 gallon container; 36″ ~ 15 gallon container; 48″ ~ 20-30 gallon container; or 60″ ~ 30-40 gallon container.
  • In watering your plant during the vegetative phase make sure you are not overwatering. The soil needs to be damp, not wet. This is very important for those growers who will “pot up” “up pot”(e.g., transplant from a 10-gallon pot to a 25-gallon pot) between the vegetative and flowering period and those moving from a top-watering to a bottom watering system. Overwatering from the top may leach out nutrients and may result in diminished root systems. The lack of root growth may result in flowering plants with an insufficient root system to access the nutrients.
  • Overwatering may also encourage the presence of fungus gnats. Fungus gnats can be damaging to plant roots, so if soils are being overwatered it is recommended that diatomaceous earth be sprinkled on the soil surface around the plant to inhibit gnat populations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! Michigan Mediums Soil mixes are fully amended living soils. Each mix has been expertly designed to contain everything your plants need at that specific stage in the growing cycle. We do not believe in a “1 Mix Water Only Soil” as these mixes lack in specific nutrients for each stage, that is why we have 3. Each mix specifically designed to have all the nutrients required for each specific stage of growing. These soil mixes have more then enough nutrients for your plants indoors and outdoors.

Even though we recommend transplanting or “up-potting” to larger containers as your plants progress there is a solution for those that do not wish to transplant. We do recommend starting seeds or clones in a small container with our Michigan Mediums Start Mix. If you do not want to transplant from the Michigan Mediums Veg Mix to the Michigan Mediums Bloom Mix you can simply add 50% Bloom Mix on the bottom of your container and 50% Veg Mix on the top of your container. This technique is used for those finishing in the same pot the plants are started in.

No! This is not recommended with smaller plants. The Michigan Mediums Bloom Mix is extremely nutrient dense and will burn up and kill small/medium sized plants. We believe that a 1 Mix water only soil is a gimmick and will never let the plant grow to its full potential. For this reason we have created a Start, Veg and Bloom Mix. It is recommended to transition into the Michigan Mediums Bloom Mix only after the plant has been established in our Michigan Mediums Veg Mix. Do not try to skip steps. Results may vary.

This is not recommended and results will vary. It is recommended to use our entire line of soils for optimal results. Our Start, Veg and Bloom Mixes have been expertly designed and tested to be used in conjunction with each other.

Michigan Mediums Products are sourced from 100% Organic Input Materials. While only adding clean water to our All Organic Super Soil and maintaining a clean, pest free environment this is the cleanest form of Cannabis. Passing State Compliance Testing for Cannabis does not get much easier! Michigan Mediums Products contain No Heavy Metals, No Pesticides and No Other Contaminants. Michigan Mediums Products are registered with the Department of Agriculture in each state sold. Michigan Mediums Products undergo annual inspection through each state to guarantee consistency in products sold to consumers. It is the growers job to make sure crops are free of Pests, Pesticides, Yeasts & Molds, E. Coli, Salmonella, Water Quality, Etc.

Absolutely! The myth that growers are unable to reach high yields with organics is soon coming to an end. Michigan Mediums Living Soils will achieve the highest of yields given the proper environment, watering techniques and good plant genetics.

Michigan Mediums Soils are designed not to require any additional amendments. Adding some nutrients can hurt your plant (especially Nitrogen). If you add more nutrients you will take away the plant’s ability to choose the nutrients it needs when it needs them. In other words, you are force feeding the plant and reducing the benefits of the soil. If you can not stop yourself from adding amendments (we know its tough) then do it on a very small scale and be sure to test your results regularly to avoid an overabundance of nutrients that will hurt the plants growth. Just add water.

We recommend adding nothing to Michigan Mediums Soils other then Michigan Mediums products. Our soil mixes require no additional nutrients. Typically adding amendments such as our Michigan Mediums Compost Plus or Michigan Mediums Worms Castings are for re-using Michigan Mediums soils. We do not recommend re-using the soil when growing cannabis indoors. Adding additional microbes or taking advantage of a sweetener will not harm the soil. Do not add additional nutrients.

Water very sparingly at first especially when transitioning to different Michigan Mediums Mixes. Do not overwater. Overwatering is the most common way to misuse our living soils.

No. You can flush, but you do not need to. All you need to do is add water to Michigan Mediums Living Soils. Flushing is most common when adding nutrients manually, but with this soil, nutrients are already there, so you do not need to flush!

Be sure to maintain best practices for integrated pest management. Our products undergo strict state testing and are absolutely pest free.

Seeds and Clones can be started in Michigan Mediums Start Mix. This mix is specifically designed to have seeds planted directly in it, or clones directly transplanted into. Simply follow directions on the back of the bag. Once the plant is well rooted in Michigan Mediums Start Mix move on to Michigan Mediums Veg Mix.

We have taken all of the work out of growing plants by pre-amending Michigan Mediums Soils with all the macro and micro nutrients your plants need. For real, just add water!

For growers taking advantage of Autoflower strains we recommend starting seeds or clones in our Michigan Mediums Start Mix. From the Start Mix, transplant directly into a container containing 50% Michigan Mediums Bloom Mix on the bottom and 50% Michigan Mediums Veg Mix on top.

Yes, Michigan Mediums is a fully amended all natural soil with all the bioavailable nutrients necessary for any strain of Cannabis. It is important to note that Michigan Mediums Living Soils were developed by growers for growers.

Absolutely. All of our ingredients are sourced with a commitment to environmental sustainability in mind.

The potency of your existing cannabis strain is genetically determined. To achieve the best genetic potential your growing practices (e.g. Lighting, Climate, Nutrients) will have a great impact.

Michigan Mediums Living Soils have been designed to deliver nutrients for the entire life cycle of a cannabis plant. Consider replenishing the soil with additional nutrients if you wish to re-use the soil for future crops. Re-Used soil is not recommended for growing Cannabis.
